Douglas Peterson, MD
Born and raised in Cody, Wyoming, Dr. Douglas Peterson brings a lifetime
of service, leadership, and medical excellence to the Cody Regional Health
Foundation Board. A proud graduate of Cody High School (Co-Valedictorian,
1965), Dr. Peterson pursued higher education with distinction, earning
College Honors in Zoology from the University of Washington, followed
by his medical degree from the University of New Mexico School of Medicine,
where he received the Roche Award. He completed his Internal Medicine
residency at the Mayo Graduate School of Medicine, earning the Outstanding
Achievement Award, and later added an M.B.A. from Arizona State University’s
Carey School of Business.
Dr. Peterson’s career spans over four decades, including private practice in Cody, service at Mayo Clinic Minnesota, and a long tenure at Mayo Clinic Arizona, where he served as Chair of the Divisions of Regional and International Medicine and Consultative Medicine, and as Vice Chair of Outpatient Practice. He also served as Spring Training Physician for the Los Angeles Dodgers from 1974 to 1992.
Beyond medicine, Dr. Peterson has been deeply engaged in civic leadership. He served on the Cody Chamber of Commerce Board, the Cody School Board, and as President of the Medical Staff at West Park Hospital. His return to Cody in retirement reflects his enduring commitment to the community that shaped him.
As a Foundation Board Member, Dr. Peterson offers a rare blend of clinical insight, administrative acumen, and heartfelt dedication to advancing healthcare in the region he calls home.
