About Julie

Julie Steward, NP, brings a unique depth of clinical experience and a strong connection to Cody Regional Health to her role as a nurse practitioner with the hospitalist service. She also provides care through the Wound Care Clinic and supports the Emergency Department when needed.

Julie’s healthcare career began at Cody Regional Health in 2014, when she became an EMT-Basic after an experience in Wyoming’s backcountry inspired her to pursue emergency medical training. While guiding elk hunters, Julie was caring for a hunter who was injured when his horse flipped over on him. With limited resources and no reliable way to call for help from the backcountry, the experience motivated her to gain the knowledge and skills to respond when others need help most.

From there, Julie continued building her career at Cody Regional Health. She became a certified nursing assistant and licensed practical nurse before earning her registered nursing degree from Northwest College. She worked in the Acute Care Unit while completing her nursing education and later made the Critical Care Unit her primary area of practice. She also cross-trained in the Emergency Department and worked with the cardiac program, assisting with stress testing, before continuing her education to become a nurse practitioner. She remains an EMT today.

Education and teamwork continue to be important parts of Julie’s work. She serves as a course director for American Heart Association training, teaching Basic Life Support, Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support and Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognition and Stabilization courses. She also assists with quarterly training for Acute Care and Critical Care staff and serves as a provider representative on the ACU/CCU Unit-Based Council.

For Julie, providing excellent care is a team effort.

“The people and the teamwork are what I value most,” Julie said. “We cannot do this job alone. Everyone has to work together to provide the best care we can for our patients.”

Outside of work, Julie embraces everything Wyoming has to offer. She and her husband enjoy hunting, camping and pack trips in the mountains. She has four horses and two dogs and also enjoys hiking, fishing and spending as much time outdoors as possible. When she is not outside, she appreciates settling in with a good book.
