About Eric
Dr. Eric Porritt is an orthopedic surgeon specializing in hip and knee replacement, orthopedic trauma, and general orthopedics. He has a simple philosophy: patients shouldn’t have to travel to a big city to receive exceptional orthopedic care.
A University of Oklahoma graduate, Dr. Porritt attended Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed his orthopedic surgery residency at St. James/Christ Hospital in Chicago. He began his orthopedic career on active duty with the U.S. Army in Landstuhl, Germany, and deployed to Afghanistan with the 160th Forward Surgical Team, supporting U.S. Special Forces.
After leaving active duty, his extensive military trauma experience helped him play a role in the development of Level II trauma programs at hospitals in Denver, Colorado, and Utica, New York. He subsequently returned to Oklahoma, where he practiced the full spectrum of general orthopedics while developing a busy hip and knee replacement practice.
Although trauma has been an important part of his career, Dr. Porritt’s particular passion is hip replacement. He specializes in the tissue-sparing SuperPATH hip replacement technique and has extensive experience with modern rapid-recovery protocols designed to help appropriate patients return home the same day as surgery. He also performs minimally invasive total and partial knee replacement. His expertise has been utilized on several design teams developing and improving implants and instrumentation.
Dr. Porritt believes advanced technology and surgical expertise matter—but so does knowing your patient. He favors an individualized approach rather than treating every patient, injury, or joint replacement the same way. That philosophy has helped him earn consistently high patient satisfaction and a 4.8-star Google rating throughout his career.
After his military service, Dr. Porritt felt increasingly drawn back to the Mountain West. An avid outdoorsman, he had hoped throughout his career to eventually put down roots in a smaller mountain community—one where family, faith, hard work, and time outdoors remain part of everyday life. He and his family found that in Cody.
Outside the hospital, Dr. Porritt is most at home in the mountains. He and his family have raised five children with skis on their feet and an appreciation for adventure, service, and the outdoors. He is active in his church and community and enjoys skiing, hiking, running, and just about anything that gets him outside. For Dr. Porritt, coming to Cody is more than a professional move; it is an opportunity to practice the kind of medicine he values in a community and way of life he has long wanted to call home.
