Cody Hospital Receives Jeff Martin Gold Award 9 Consecutive Years

Cody, Wyo.(July 24, 2018) – Cody Regional Health has been awarded the Jeff Martin Gold Award for Excellence for nine consecutive years. The Yellowstone Insurance Exchange, RRG - Risk Management Recognition Award is designed to recognize and reward exemplary hospitals for their efforts to enhance patient safety and overall safety for families, staff and the communities served by Yellowstone member hospitals.

This year Cody Regional Health won the award for implementing a program to educate inpatients about Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and Congestive Heart Failure (CHF).

“These two diseases cost our country over 60 billion dollars in health care expenditures annually. This program was designed to educate patients on their disease process and what signs and symptoms to look for and when to contact their primary care doctor. The education empowers patients to make active decisions in their care,” states Cardiopulmonary and Home Oxygen Director, Lori Arnold.

This prevents potential readmissions to a health care facility such as Cody Regional Health. The Affordable Health Care Act and the CURES Act have challenged health care facilities in limiting the number of readmissions of these patients. Cody Regional Health has decreased the number of readmissions of this population by over 5% and Cody Regional Health is well below the national average for readmissions of COPD and CHF patients.

Since the program’s inception in 2009, Cody Regional Health has been the only healthcare system to win the top-level Jeff Martin Award for Excellence every year for nine consecutive years. This extended success underscores the hospital’s deep commitment to enhanced patient safety throughout the organization.
